We will be staying in Governors Camp, which is nestled along the winding banks of the Mara River, in the heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The area next to the camp, the Musiera Marsh, is well known for being the home to the famous Marsh Pride of Lions, which were featured in the BBC documentary series ‘The Big Cat Diary”. Jonathan Scott, the wildlife photographer and presenter of Big Cats Diary and Big Cat Tales, is a frequent visitor to Governors Camp and views the camp as his second home.
The entire camp is under canvas with all the comforts of a luxury hotel. Some of the 25 tents line the riverbank, tucked into the forest they enjoy uninterrupted views of the Mara River, others have views across the sweeping plains of the Maasai Mara. The tents are big, bright and allow in lots of natural light. All tents are classic safari style each with ensuite bathrooms and a private verandah. The tents have electric lights and 220 Volt UK plugs for charging cameras and phones. Wifi is available in the camp.
The camp is unfenced so open to the wild animals who frequently visit, which adds to the charm. You may hear the animals outside your tent at night, but there is no need to be alarmed! The camp has guards around 24 hours every day to ensure our safety. Frequent wildlife visitors include hippos, elephants, warthogs, dwarf mongooses and bush babies, to name a few.
This fully inclusive experience is for 10 nights in the camp and includes a night in a hotel in Nairobi before we move to Wilson Airport for our flight to the Governors Camp Airstrip. All transfers are included. We will have a minimum of 20 private safaris in a custom built 4x4 vehicle. There are opportunities for up to three excursions each day. It is up to each guest to decide if they would like to do extra activities. All meals are included. Purified water, drinks including house wine, beers, soft drinks are all included.
