Join Janette on a 10 night tour of Amboseli to photograph the parks many herds of elephants led by matriachs over the dried up Amboseli Lake and plains of the park. We will try and maximise opportunities for low angle shots and spend time learning different techniques including backlit images and maximising the use of light and dust, especially at dusk and dawn.
Please note: Sometimes the itinerary may change but this will not interfere with game viewing and photography opportunities!
Will I need a Visa?
Yes but this is relatively easy to do. An online e-Visa is all that is required.
How do I get an online e-Visa?
Sign up for an account at www.evisa.go.ke/evisa website. Apply and pay online. Download an application form and complete this. You will need to upload some documents in jpeg form only. A recent passport size photo, a copy of your passport, a copy of the bio data page and a copy of your hotel booking for your first night in Kenya.
What type of Visa will I need?
A Single Entry Visa
Where will I get the information to complete the application?
Janette will send this to you before you apply
Will it be warm weather?
Generally yes but it can be chilly in the mornings so a fleece is advisable. It may also be windy at times. A buff will help you to keep warm. You may also need a woolly hat!
We have just returned from a fabulous 15 day wildlife adventure in Kenya organised by Janette. From Nairobi we went to the Amboseli National Park and then visited various other stunning locations and ended up in the Chyulu Hills National Park.
We were privileged to be guided by Federico Veronesi who is one of the top wildlife/fine art photographers in Africa. With his expertise and local contacts, Federico was able to put us on to some of the best Tuskers in the area as well as other elephants, lions and other wildlife. He was first rate at getting us into the best situations for photography and we had a contact stream of suggestions and advice to help us in achieving some wonderful images. He was also happy to give us time in the breaks between game drives to advise on getting the best out of our images in post processing including some really stunning monochrome versions.
One of the key features of our Landcruiser was the modification to one of the doors to allow us to take images from floor level in the vehicle. This was a revelation in enabling us to produce more dynamic perspectives as well as lowering troublesome horizons and minimising nuisance backgrounds.
The only problem we were left with was thousands of first class images to sort out on our return to the UK!
We have just returned from an amazing Natural Wonders Photography safari to Amboseli National Park and the Chyulu Hills. As always Janette’s planning and organisation was superb and our tour was filled with unforgettable experiences. The main reason for choosing Amboseli was to photograph some of Kenya’s biggest tuskers and varied wildlife and we were not disappointed.
It was a privilege to have Federico Veronesi as our guide. His local knowledge and in depth understanding of elephant behaviours and daily movements enabled us to photograph many elephant family groups and three of the best and largest male tuskers, all at close quarters. Spending time with a lion, lioness and their two cubs was simply awesome.
Federico taught us to see Kenya through different eyes, often encouraging us to take wider angle landscape shots and, at dusk, low level back lit images. We have converted some of our images into monochrome with Federico’s guidance and we are thrilled with the results.
The sight of large groups of elephants crossing the dry lake bed to reach the swamps of Amboseli are embedded in our memories and we have returned home with several thousands of fantastic images.
